Poke is a raw fish salad served being an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine. Poke will be the Hawaiian verb for "section" or "to slice or cut".[1] Traditional forms are aku (an oily tuna) and he'e (octopus). More popular then ever ahi poke is usually created using yellowfin tuna. Adaptations may feature raw salmon or various shellfish like a main ingredient served raw with all the common "poke" seasonings/

Poke began with fishermen seasoning the cut-offs from other catch to offer being a snack.[3] Traditional poke seasonings are already heavily influenced by Japanese as well as other Asian cuisines. For instance , soy sauce, green onions, and sesame oil. Others include furikake (combination of dried fish, sesame seeds, and dried seaweed), chopped dried or fresh chili pepper, limu (seaweed), sea salt, inamona (roasted crushed candlenut), fish eggs, wasabi, and Maui onions. Other variations of poke may include cured he?e (octopus), other kinds of raw tuna, raw salmon as well as other kinds of shellfish.
